To Do Lists - Are you creating a resonable expectation?

Online Business

Sitting here at almost 3pm I think wow I have achieved allot today as I cross another thing off my board feeling cuffed with myself but not all days are the same because some days I make unreasonable to-do lists. Today is not one of those days so what where the keys to success in today’s list.

I stated the list last night so I did not get up all muddle-headed and panicked so I was ready for work.
I planned my day I had time for Emails, Social Networking, Calls and Admin
I tackled one task at a time = allot more focused response and a faster result
I had a break for lunch
The tasks were reasonable and set in to small chunks
I have hidden my email so I only see it when I open it same with Facebook
I allocated my time so I used it wisely

This does not mean:

-          The phone did not ring

-          My toddler played the game and let mummy work when she needed to

-          That I did not had to juggle my day

What it did mean is that when these things happened today I was prepared for it and able to handle it without feeling ambushed.

The trick to today’s to-do list it was simple, visual and I felt like I achieved something with all the tasks being a step to the bigger picture. So really planning was the key to success with the detail needed to make sure I was focused on what I needed to do!

What works for you and your  To – Do list?

Thanks for your feedback Phil I think as business owners we can place expections on ourselves higher than any employer would. I hope you have had a great day too!

What a timely article! Some days I just feel that there just isn't enough time in the day. So I compromise on sleep, and meals, and before I know it, I'm stuck in this rut of wondering where has the day gone. With so much going on in my business, it's so easy to get distracted and lose focus. And you're absolutely right, planning is key (with the right level of details too), but also rest and meal breaks. You know, sometimes I skip meals (not often because I love my food :)), but you soon realise that lack of sustenance just makes things worse. It's the same with sleep. I also think that it's so important to prioritise, and make sure that we get the big stones into the jar first, before we worry about the smaller peebles. Otherwise, we can easily end of getting all the little tasks with low impact done first, and we still haven't got very far at all. These days I make it a point to get all the big ticket items out of the way first in the morning, I find that works best. Thanks for sharing Linda, hope you had another productive day today! :)
