You may not be suited to business, but then again...

Business Coaching

Let’s face facts, many businesses fail in the early stages. Perhaps because many people have never experienced business before, and some just don’t become committed to the idea long enough to get really passionate about the whole thing.

I have seen people get excited from an early age to be in business. They ask questions, do research, chat to business people, basically they get excited. When they do get into business they do so with a solid conviction and are armed with enough information to make a go of it.

Perhaps the key thing is the conviction, the ‘want’ to be in business more than anything which gives them the best possible foundation to work from.

For some the lure of business comes when they have had a  payout after being laid off from work “I can now start that dream business” or perhaps when presented with a business ‘system’ they think sounds good… Perhaps a Franchise, or a Multi Level Marketing ‘opportunity’. The emotive side of the brain starts to kick in when they hear the benefits, logic may become blurred and they say yes, when perhaps they should have said maybe.

Often a person with conviction is able to get the ‘naysayers’ on side (partners and the like) who may not see the features or the benefits. Their ability to sell the idea is strong, (based on good logic too) and they do their homework to ensure whatever they jump into is going to be as solid as they can make it.

In looking at a business ‘opportunity’ there are those whose ‘radar’ goes crazy scanning for a flaw and those who blindly follow not really knowing what’s in store. Heaven help the person presenting the business system if a couple have one of each of these types in the sales process it could soon become “I told you it was a scam...” followed by “But it seemed alright to me?”

Often the ‘naysayer’ will indicate that “It seemed too good to be true and I knew it would be.” Often said well after the whole thing became a sad sorry mess of arguments and emotional pushing and pulling.

Being in business takes a lot of things, commitment, drive, determination, funds, strength, skills ability and more. All of which are quite different from being employed in a job, in business it goes beyond 9 - 5 and beyond the usual level of emotional involvement. To be successful in business may require more effort than you may be used to so consider that in the process.

Get a strategy in place, develop a plan, call me and get an outsiders view on what you are doing well and what needs to happen next. In the meantime check the articles on my website. Cheers

Spot on Steve. The attraction of owning your own business is a heady aphrodisiac, which makes it difficult for most to see what it really requires. Once the initial excitement wears off....it's often a case of: "OMG...what have I done??!!" Unfortunately, a large number of people going into business are not equipped or informed. It's not that the business idea isn't good...it's them.
