Do you plan but not implement it?

Yogi Berra, the great American baseball player, once said, "If you don't know where you're going, you are probably going to end up somewhere else."

There are an awful lot of people who plan, but very few who are able to implement their plan.

It has been my experience that one of the reasons people are not able to implement their plans is that they try to eat an elephant all at once.  Successful planning requires having achievable, measurable, specific goals and steps – steps that can be broken down to smaller, actionable tasks.

One way to do this is to schedule your day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in 30 minute segments.  Many business professionals would achieve more if they had a life plan that could be broken down into much smaller segments, which include details and planning for things such as time for reading and family. Likewise breaking down a business plan that looked at the short to long term but broke it down into bite sized chunks of what tehy need to achieve that month, that week and TODAY.

As I am fond of reminding my clients, Procrastination is a wealth hazard

For any plan to be successful, it has to have totality in it, meaning it has to include all parts of your life, including work, family, your spiritual health, your physical health, your intellect and your wealth. Once you have a plan that is both meaningful and measurable, you will be able to “break it down.”

Besides, the only way you can eat an elephant  is one bite at a time.

Take care, take action and be relentless...
